Lawmakers to consider vets benefit expansion, judges retirement age

TRENTON — New Jersey lawmakers are returning to the Statehouse this week following their summer break and are expected to take up several measures, including extending certain benefits to all veterans rather than just those who served during wartime, and raising the mandatory retirement age for state judges and county prosecutors.

A bill inspired by the 2012 death of a Delran family’s pet dog, Moose, also is scheduled for a hearing Thursday before the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, one of eight Assembly committees scheduled to convene that day.
