Governor O’Malley and Senator Begich Announce NewDEAL Leaders and Honorary Regional Chair

Today, NewDEAL Honorary Co-Chairs Governor Martin O’Malley of Maryland and U.S. Senator Mark Begich of Alaska announced that eleven state and local elected leaders from across the country have been selected as the next group of NewDEAL Leaders and that California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom has been named as one of the NewDEAL’s Honorary Regional Chairs.

The NewDEAL is a national network committed to highlighting pro-growth progressive state and local elected leaders from across the country with innovative ideas to build broadly-earned, sustainable economic growth.

“Senator Begich and I joined the NewDEAL because we believe that we need to look for fresh ideas not just from the top down in Washington, DC, but also from the around the country, where local leaders are developing and testing their ideas out on the ground,” said Governor O’Malley, Honorary Co-Chair of the NewDEAL.

“I’m honored to work with the NewDEAL to highlight state and local leaders from around the country with ideas to make government work better for all of us,” said Lieutenant Governor Newsom.  “I’m looking forward to sharing my ideas and hearing about what’s working best in other communities that can help us expand opportunity here in California.”

In addition to Newsom, the NewDEAL is recognizing eleven leaders who hail from diverse regions of the country:

Lincoln (NE) City Councilor Leirion Gaylor Baird, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, New York City Councilor Dan Garodnick, Pittsburgh City Councilor Dan Gilman, New Jersey Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald, Indianapolis City Council President Maggie Lewis, Downingtown (PA) Mayor Josh Maxwell, Nebraska Senator Jeremy Nordquist, New Jersey Assemblymember Troy Singleton, Arkansas Representative Warwick Sabin, and Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley.
