N.J. private schools could be required to share student discipline records under new bill
A bill in the New Jersey Legislature would require nonpublic schools, including private and religious schools, to forward student disciplinary records to public school districts when a student transfers.
The measure, S1819, sponsored by Sen. Troy Singleton, D-Burlington, passed the Senate and was referred to the Assembly Education Committee on June 18.
Under the bill, when a student moves from a nonpublic school to a public school, the nonpublic school must provide all disciplinary records if the district requests them in writing.
