The “Job” You Never Considered

tt30.jpgA common phrase that we hear all the time, especially when we judge those who we look up to, is the term “role model”. We constantly refer to upstanding and outstanding individuals whom we admire from afar and yet are close enough that we believe that they are worthy to emulate in this way. For some, finding these viable role models over the course of our day-to-day life can be challenging.

Working Towards A Stable And Secure State Pension System

tt29.jpgThe other day I was playing the old game hot potato with my three-year old son and it dawned on me how the game could be a metaphor for New Jersey’s pension dilemma. Stay with me on this one. The game we were playing was Hot Potato. As you may recall from your youth, the object of the game is to keep the ball or object moving between those playing so that when the clock stops or the music runs out you are not left holding that “hot potato”. For those wondering, TJ lost the game.

Time for Action to End Domestic Violence

tt28.jpgHey gang! I hope you have enjoyed the posts on my blog. I try to give you a sense of my take on current affairs and more substantive policy issues. I believe that our government works best when those given the responsibility to represent all of us remain in close contact with those who sent us to do the job. This week is a little twist. My wife, Megan, asked if she could send a message out to you guys about the importance of eradicating domestic violence. Her story is both poignant and personal. Let us know what you think. Putting “Structure” in the Infrastructure

tt26.jpgIt’s a term that when you say it, people’s eyes tend to glaze over, even those who are thoughtful, well-edcated and forward-looking. Just say “infrastructure” and watch the reaction.

A New Jersey Formula For Fun

tt24b.jpgWho says I can’t have fun? After I reviewed the feedback from my blogs during recent months, I heard from many folks who said, "Wow, Troy, you are really serious about everything! What do you do for fun?" Well, when it comes to the issues that matter to my bosses of LD7, I am pretty serious. That said, all work and no play would make me a dull boy.

Mensches and Leeches

Despite the steady but slow national economic recovery, New Jersey lags its neighboring states in almost all economic indicators. There are a number of reasons for this - some political, some based on our tax code, and many based on pure greed.

A Major Fumble By The NFL

tt23b.jpgBaltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice crossed the line. This time it wasn’t in a moment of athletic glory but one of personal shame. I'm referring to the incident of domestic violence that Mr. Rice committed against his now wife in Atlantic City this past February. The despicable videotape which surfaced showing him pulling her from an elevator, seemingly lifeless, left me disgusted. However, what has infuriated me is the callousness of the NFL's response to this terrible act.
