Assemblyman Troy Singleton will be honored for his advocacy on Friday with the Community Health Center Champion Award from the NJ Primary Care Association (NJPCA) at their annual conference in Atlantic City.

Singleton was chosen for the award because of his staunch support for the association's network of Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), which deliver critical health services to low-income residents with little to no insurance and few other health resources. Earlier this year, Singleton toured the Burlington City FQHC with NJPCA CEO Kathy Grant Davis to get a first-hand glimpse of the critical services that are provided for his constituents and to better understand the challenges and needs that these centers face.

"These health centers are a crucial lifeline for many families who have little or nowhere else to turn for their health care needs," said Singleton (D-Burlington). "Since their inception, they have flourished from the very basic of services to comprehensive, top-notch care. I commend the NJ Primary Care Association for all they have done to boost these centers and I'm proud to continue supporting them because they provide an invaluable service to our community."

In New Jersey, the major providers of comprehensive community-based primary health care for some of the state's most impoverished residents are the 20 community health centers and their satellite sites. Approximately 1,300,000 patient visits are made annually to New Jersey's FQHCs by almost 422,000 users. Typical services include internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, geriatrics, medical and surgical sub-specialties, laboratory, podiatry, pharmacy, x-ray, dental, and mental health services.

Singleton will receive the award along with Senator Robert Singer, Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera and Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce at a 1 pm luncheon in the Golden Nugget's Grand A Ballroom in Atlantic City.
