Singleton Bill Providing Representation for Burlington County on SJTA Advances

TRENTON – The Senate Transportation Committee recently advanced a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senator Troy Singleton that would add Burlington County as the seventh member county of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, bringing the number of SJTA board members to eight.

“Burlington County has an undeniable presence in South Jersey as the region’s largest county geographically and second largest by population. Our residents deserve a voice in the decisions that directly impact their infrastructure, transportation network, and quality of life,” said Senator Troy Singleton (D-Burlington). “Including Burlington County in the SJTA’s decision-making process will give our residents a stronger avenue to advocate for their needs, improve regional connectivity, and better coordinate transportation resources across the region.”

The SJTA coordinates transportation operations in South Jersey and presently serves six counties: Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem. The bill, S-3748, would add Burlington County to the board, require that 7 members be residents of South Jersey, and require that 3 members live at least 30 miles from Atlantic City International Airport.
