Bordentown City Awarded Second State Grant to Improve Connectivity From Park Street to Downtown
Funding for project now totals $1,375,000
BORDENTOWN CITY, NJ — The City of Bordentown has been awarded a second grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to fund improvements for walkability on Park Street.
The City will be receiving $900,000 from the NJDOT Local Aid Infrastructure Fund, which comes a little over a year after the municipality was awarded a $475,000 state grant last summer for the same project.
The funds will be used to construct a pedestrian bike path alongside Park Street, which will connect the City's municipal complex at the former Divine Word Missionaries property, the planned D&R Canal State Park at historic Point Breeze, residents of Park Street Apartments and employees who work in the area to downtown Bordentown City and the NJ TRANSIT RiverLine Station.
“We now have a total of $1,375,000 to support the design and construction of this project, which will connect two key quadrants of the City without placing a huge burden on local taxpayers," said Mayor Jennifer Sciortino. “Given that our local budget has been extremely tight in recent years, this grant is a huge win for so many people — residents who prize walkability, the businesses that make up our downtown, commuters who rely on the light rail station, residents who call Park Street Apartments home, and of course everyone who is eager to see us develop programs and amenities at Point Breeze.”
“I want to thank the New Jersey Department of Transportation for their continued support of this vital project and Senator Troy Singleton for his continued advocacy on behalf of Bordentown and its residents.”
City officials are currently exploring design options for the pedestrian bike path and meeting with Burlington County officials, as Park Street is a County road. Sciortino noted that the City hopes to go out to bid on the project in the first half of 2026.
