N.J. extends June deadline for property tax relief program

Homeowners now have until Oct. 17 to file their application with the state. The original deadline was June 1.

Residents who do apply by the June 1 deadline will receive their checks in July, and those who file after that date will get their checks as their paperwork is processed, the administration said.

To be eligible for the Senior Freeze program, you must be 65 or older or receiving Social Security benefits and have lived in the state for 10 years. Other requirements, including income limits, apply.

More than 170,000 residents received checks last year averaging $1,200, according to a news release.
