New Community Solar Farm Built On Closed Delanco Landfill

Another first for the state — a community solar project built on a closed landfill in Delanco, Burlington County. Once it starts operating, the solar farm will power up to 700 homes in Burlington, Camden and Mercer counties with clean energy. According to the developer, Soltage, just over half of its subscribers are low- to moderate-income residents and will save about $120 a year on their electric bills, with a guarantee of those savings for up to 20 years.

The effort is part of the state Board of Public Utilities’ Community Solar Pilot program. Local and state leaders cut the ribbon Thursday marking the end of the construction phase. The solar panels will be up and running next week.
