PRINCETON, NJ – On Saturday, March 10, New Jersey State Senator Troy Singleton led a team of volunteers to help renovate two homes in Mount Laurel affiliated with Community Options, Inc. (COI), a nonprofit serving people with disabilities.

“It is an honor to partner with Community Options for our March service event,” said Singleton, who represents Mount Laurel as part of the 7th Legislative District. “Not only are we volunteering our time and being of service to a worthwhile organization, but we are lending a helping hand to our neighbors with developmental disabilities who live right alongside of us.”

Volunteers began by adjusting furniture, prepping the drop cloths and paint, and painting the rooms and doors. About 20 volunteers participated on the project. The two residences are among the earliest homes acquired by Community Options, which recently celebrated the opening of their 500th home.

“I want to thank Senator Singleton and all the volunteers that came to work on this project,” said Maddie Lobban, Executive Director for Community Options in Burlington County. “We are fortunate to be in a community that is willing to generously donate their time to help people with disabilities. I know the residents will be thrilled to see their home freshly painted.”

This is Senator Singleton’s 3rd “Serve with Singleton” event since he became a State Senator in January 2018. Previous efforts included renovation of the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in Maple Shade and a clean-up day at Jacob’s Chapel Ministry Center in Mount Laurel.

COI is a national nonprofit in its 30th year of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing residential and employment services.  COI currently supports over 850 individuals in New Jersey and operates 137 homes.
