It is always an honor to serve my bosses in the 7th Legislative District, and as the 2024-2025 legislative session comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to highlight several of my bills that became law over the past two years.
It is always an honor to serve my bosses in the 7th Legislative District, and as the 2024-2025 legislative session comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to highlight several of my bills that became law over the past two years.
- Starting with…New Jersey’s historic affordable housing law, S50! A major accomplishment, this legislation streamlined and modernized housing processes and established clear standards for municipalities to follow in accordance with the Supreme Court’s Mt. Laurel decision from more than 50 years ago. The law will result in the creation of tens of thousands of affordable and market-rate homes, ensuring that our most vulnerable residents, as well as our families and friends, can find an affordable place to call home. Over 400 towns across the State have adopted and filed housing plans, thus far.
- My family, like many across this state, has sadly been impacted by life-threatening cancers. As technology advances, early detection of these diseases can save lives. That is why I was proud to work alongside Senator Gopal to pass S3098, which requires health insurers to provide coverage for biomarker medical testing—ensuring patients across the state have access to life-saving tests and can receive early treatment before it is too late. As a result of this new law, and our other past efforts to fight cancer, I am proud that the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network bestowed me with the 2025 National Distinguished Advocacy Award.
- Inspired by advocates like Medford teen Logan Marmino, and by hearing firsthand about the financial hurdles people face in obtaining orthotic and prosthetic limbs for recreational or sports use, we took bipartisan action through S1439. This law requires health benefits to cover the cost of additional prosthetic appliances so amputees can participate in sports and recreational activities.
- Working with Assemblywoman Andrea Katz (LD-8), we got S3388 signed into law. This bill allows pharmacists to transfer Schedule II ADHD prescriptions to another pharmacist. This is crucial because these prescriptions cannot always be filled in a timely manner by the original pharmacy, and the new law provides much needed flexibility to ensure patients receive their medication.
- To give back to those that have served our nation, I spearheaded S1445, a new law that requires all public colleges and universities in the state to readmit students whose enrollment was interrupted due to military service.
- When a loved one passes handling their estate is a cumbersome process and S1400 helps protect family-owned property. When a home or land is passed down through a family and owned by multiple relatives, the law prevents one individual from easily forcing a sale that displaces others. It provides families with more notice, clearer rules, and fairer options to keep the property or receive fair value if a sale is necessary.
- On labor protections, the Governor signed S1403 into law. When an employer or contractor is engaged in work for a public body, such as a municipality, school board, or county government, they must submit payroll records to the Department of Labor. This ensures that projects funded by public dollars are paying workers fairly and that employees are not being shorted in their wages.
As we approach the final days of the legislative session, we have been working to advance additional bills to the Governor’s desk including:
- Lisa’s Law: To better protect victims of domestic violence after enduring some of the most horrific acts, I am working to pass S1385, also known as Lisa’s Law, which establishes a four-year pilot program allowing courts to impose electronic monitoring on domestic violence offenders to ensure compliance with restraining orders and prevent contact with their victims.
- Secure Choice: Additionally, to expand access to retirement savings, we are advancing S4564, which would require small business employers with at least 10 employees to participate in the New Jersey Secure Choice Savings Program. Many small business employees currently lack access to retirement benefits, and this bill bridges that gap to ensure every New Jersey resident can retire with dignity in this state.
