7th Legislative District Reading Challenge

Dear Students and Families,

Thank you for your willingness to participate in the 9th Annual 7th Legislative District’s Jump into Reading Challenge! When I was a student just like you, I was very fortunate to have great teachers and staff members at my school and they worked very hard to teach me the importance of reading. They encouraged me to find books that would interest me and to read every day and because of this, I developed a life-long love of reading. This love of reading has benefitted me throughout my life, and I wanted to help your teachers and principals do the same for you.

To participate in the challenge, you must be in grades 1-4 and you must first gain the permission of your parent or guardian. Then, simply read as many books as possible from October 7th to November 15th. Every time you complete a book, you must fill out the attached log with the book title and date completed. The same book that is logged multiple times will only be counted once. The log is due to your teacher by November 15th. Don’t forget to sign your log. Your parent/guardian and teacher must sign it as well.

If you are the student that reads the most books from your school, you will receive a gift certificate for a family bowling experience for up to six people at Laurel Lanes. Should you be one of the top readers overall in your grade across the district, you will also be awarded with a special plaque.

If you or your parent/guardian have any questions, please feel free to contact my office at 856-234-2790. I can’t wait to see all the great books that you will discover, hopefully you’ll discover some of my favorites! Best of luck!

Happy Reading,
Hon. Troy Singleton

Senator, 7th District
