Scutari Selects Singleton To Serve As Senate Majority Whip

TRENTON – Senator Nicholas Scutari, the incoming President of the New Jersey Senate, announced the selection of Senator Troy Singleton to the Senate Democratic Leadership Team, where he will serve as Senate Majority Whip.

“I am proud to announce the selection of Senator Singleton to be a member of the team of leaders for the Senate Democratic Majority,” said Senator Scutari. “He possesses a firm grasp of public policies and an innate understanding of the impact they will have on the lives and livelihoods of everyday, working people. He is sharply attuned to the needs and priorities of the people we serve. Troy will make significant contributions to a team of leaders that will be the most diverse the history of the State Senate.”

Senator Singleton was elected to the Senate in 2017 after serving in the Assembly from 2011 in the 7th Legislative District. He serves as chair of the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee, vice chair of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Joint Committee on Housing Affordability, and as vice chair of the Legislative Black Caucus.

Already named to leadership were Senator M. Teresa Ruiz who, as Senate Majority Leader, will be the highest ranking Latina in the history of the New Jersey Legislature; Senator Sandra Cunningham, who was selected to serve as Senate President Pro Tempore; Senator Nellie Pou, who will serve as Senate Majority Caucus Chair and Senator Paul Sarlo, who will serve as Deputy Majority Leader.
