State Sen. Troy Singleton, D-Burlington, is set to host a Utility Assistance Day on Aug. 25 to give information about available financial relief programs that offset utility bills.

The event is to take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Unity Hall Cafeteria, which is located at 150 E. 2nd St. Burlington. 

“As families continue to struggle to heat and cool their homes, keep the lights on, and manage rising utility costs, many are unaware of the resources available to help,” Singleton said in a press release.

“Utility Assistance Days provide a valuable opportunity to bring everyone to the table, explain the programs residents may qualify for, help them navigate the application process, and connect them with the relief they need to make ends meet.” 

To apply for assistance, residents are asked to bring:

• Proof of household income statements for one month.
• Copies of Social Security cards or residency status for all household members.
• Proof of address (copy of rental lease or housing authority letter). If you're a homeowner, please bring a tax bill, mortgage statement or deed.
• All pages of electric, natural gas or heating bills.
