Singleton Statement on Governor's State of the State Address
TRENTON – Senator Troy Singleton (D-Burlington), the Senate Majority Whip and Chair of the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee, issued the following statement today on Governor Murphy’s 2025 State of the State address:
“Undoubtedly, housing affordability is the most important issue facing New Jersey’s families, and I am heartened by Governor Murphy’s emphasis on housing related initiatives in this year’s State of the State address.
“Last spring, I was proud to champion the landmark affordable housing law that will enable thousands of new, affordable homes to be built across the state. When combined with the specific, tangible reforms the Governor outlined today – expansion of accessory dwelling units, conversion of vacant and commercial property into housing, and creation of more transit-oriented development – we will continue to meet our housing goals, while also reigniting our local economies and revitalizing our communities.
“Together, these proposals will give municipalities even more tools to meet their affordable housing obligations while cutting needless and outdated bureaucratic rules that have for too long locked families out of communities and out of homeownership. I applaud the Governor’s recognition of this issue and his commitment to tackling it head-on.
“Making housing more affordable must be the foundation of our public policy, because without a safe, secure, and affordable home, none of our other policies can be as effective. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature as well as Governor Murphy over the coming months on these proposals.”
