Singleton Statement On River Line Service Interruptions

(TRENTON) – The following is a statement by Senate Majority Whip, Senator Troy Singleton, regarding the recent service interruptions on the River LINE:

“To say that I am extremely disappointed with the recent service interruptions on the New Jersey Transit River LINE would be an understatement.

“For over two weeks, NJ Transit has been operating the River LINE on a Sunday/ Holiday schedule, citing operator availability and supply chain issues as the reasons for the lack of service. While occasional interruptions can be forgiven as anomalies, it is shameful what the River LINE riders have had to endure.

“In a quest to make our state greener and to create less congestion on our roadways, we encourage people to use mass transit. However, our mass transit system, especially here in South Jersey, needs to be reliable and dependable. Unfortunately, the River LINE has long been plagued with maintenance and staffing issues. It is time that NJ Transit prioritizes the passengers, many of whom are state workers, who depend on this line to get to work every day.

“In addition to the short term, immediate resolution that will restore full service during peak hours, I urge NJ Transit to develop a long-term solution to prevent these prolonged service interruptions from happening again in the future.”
