Gov. Phil Murphy signed into law legislation sponsored by Sen. Troy Singleton, D-7th of Delran, to expand the permitted uses for county homeless trust funds to sheltering purposes during Code Blue weather emergencies. Previously the funds could only be used for purposes of providing permanent housing for homeless residents or those in danger of becoming homeless.

Mount Laurel – Speaking at a Town Hall meeting at Rowan College at Burlington County this evening, Senate President Steve Sweeney emphasized the need to confront the state’s mounting fiscal problems and warned that New Jersey won’t be able to make critical investments in education, transportation, higher education and social services unless it enacts major structural reforms to address the looming budget crisis fueled by runaway pension and benefit costs.
