Governor Murphy Signs Legislation Paving New Career Pathway in Education for New Jersey Veterans
TRENTON – Governor Murphy today signed S2764/A4361 to establish a four-year “VETeach Pilot Program” within the Department of Education. The pilot program aims to facilitate the teacher certification of veterans to address the high rate of unemployment amongst veterans while ensuring a high-quality teacher workforce. Under the bill, up to four public universities will be selected to enroll veterans of the United States Armed Forces who served on or after September 11, 2001 in a 36-month teacher preparation program.
Gopal, Singleton, Sarlo, Greenstein Bill to Revise Laws Pertaining to Alcoholic Beverage Industry Advances
TRENTON – In an effort to update and revise laws governing the state’s manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages, the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee advanced wide-ranging legislation sponsored by Senator Vin Gopal, Senator Troy Singleton, Senator Paul Sarlo and Senator Linda Greenstein that includes language meant to invigorate the craft brewery industry, as well as reform the state’s antiquated liquor licensing apparatus.

Senate Passes Pou Legislation Seeking to Curb Discriminatory Property Appraisals
TRENTON – In action meant to push back against discrimination in property appraisals, the Senate advanced the “Fair Appraisals Act.” The legislation sponsored by Senator Nellie Pou and Senator Troy Singleton would prohibit appraisal professionals from discriminating against individuals on the basis of the actual or perceived race, creed, color, national origin or other characteristic listed pursuant to the “Law Against Discrimination” during the appraisal process of a residential property.

Acting Governor Way Signs Pair of Bills to Support Small Businesses and Expand Economic Opportunity
TRENTON – Acting Governor Tahesha Way today signed two bills that build upon the Murphy Administration’s all-of-government approach to promoting the growth of small businesses and economic opportunity in New Jersey. The first bill (A3424/S1447) requires the New Jersey Department of Treasury, in partnership with the New Jersey Business Action Center (BAC), to host an “Annual Business Matchmaking Event” to connect small businesses with federal, state, and local government agencies and contractors. The second bill (A4751/S3400) requires the BAC to establish a mentorship program to match business entities with experience in particular areas with new or less experienced businesses seeking to learn from a mentor. Together, the pair of bills advance the mission and success of the BAC, with a crucial focus on the growth of minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses.
