For years, communities along the Delaware River in Burlington County – and beyond – have suffered endless, sleepless nights because of the constant noise and vibrations from ‘boom car’ parties in Philadelphia.

We have tried working cooperatively with our neighbors in Pennsylvania – we’ve met with law enforcement, community outreach, and elected officials seeking solutions; yet, the noise persists year after year. We have also passed laws here in New Jersey to increase fines on cars playing loud music, and similarly, the Philadelphia City Council passed ordinances providing for increased fines and even vehicle seizures. However, we need Philadelphia to enforce their laws.

Cracking down on ‘boom car’ parties should be a major component of Mayor Parker’s efforts to address quality of life concerns. We are hopeful that the administration will make this a priority this summer, as outlined in a letter that we sent to her last week.

Juneteenth is a poignant reminder of the collective progress we have made since our nation's original sin of slavery officially ended, and the work that still remains in order to achieve an equal and just society.

I celebrated Juneteenth at events in Willingboro and Westampton this past weekend, and tonight I will be attending the PRC (Palmyra, Riverton, Cinnaminson) Juneteenth Celebration at Riverton Memorial Park and the Mount Laurel Juneteenth event at Laurel Acres Park.

I hope to see you there, and that together, we can continue the legacy of faith, hope and perseverance. 

While we celebrate June as “Pride Month,” our work to ensure that the LGBTQ community is accepted, treated equally, fairly included, and safe from discrimination must be constant and ongoing.

Equality for all matters because when we protect the rights of one group, we are protecting the liberty of all.

While Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, please find a moment over the next few days to remember the selfless sacrifice and bravery exhibited by so many in service to our nation. For generations, American men and women have lost their lives on foreign and domestic battlefields to preserve the rights and freedoms that we enjoy today. While their ultimate sacrifice is never forgotten, Memorial Day weekend allows us the opportunity to honor their memory. I will do just that at ceremonies tonight and over the weekend, and I hope you will reflect on the true meaning of this day, too.
